Call upon Dad!

I have always been grateful and proud of the kind of father that my husband has been to our children. The absence of a earthly father in my own life has many times left me wondering what it would have been like if I had had a father growing up.

Sometimes I ask that question...you know ... "if only". Well like everything else in this world, we can't turn the clock back. Thru the eyes of my four children, I have been able to see what the love and the care looks like for a father to have towards a son or a daughter.

I can remember when my kids were younger, there was absolutely nothing that their Dad could not do. There was no problem that he could not fix, and circumstances never got so bad that they could not call upon Dad. Even when our kids grew older, they depended upon the wisdom of their father...
  • I remember one of our sons calling when he was stranded at work, his truck wouldn't start. He called his dad.
  • Another time, in the middle of the night, another son was driving home from work and slid on some ice and crashed into the ditch. He called his dad.
  • When our youngest son had a  vehicle overheat, and he needed to know what kind of oil he needed...yep, you guessed it - he called his dad.
Dad's are great! They can do anything. As we grow older, many times we come to a realization that dad sometimes can't always be there in our time of crisis. In fact sometimes when we ask Dad a question, he sometimes has no other way to respond than, "I don't know."

I am so grateful that we ALL have a Father, our heavenly Father, that loves us so much and in His unlimited ability, He avails Himself to us whenever we need Him. Just like our sons who call  up their father, God is simply waiting for us to call Him up and simply ask for His help, His guidance, His Truth, and for His provision.

We have grown children now who still call "Dad" up once in awhile to ask for his help. I am so glad that in the midst of our trial or difficulty, we don't have to rely upon someone else to fix our problems. All we need to do is call out the name of Jesus. JESUS - The name above all names. And He is there!

JAMES 5:13 "If you are having trouble, you should pray."

JEREMIAH 32:27 "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?"

Go ahead, call out to your heavenly Father and see what He might have to say!

I never get a busy signal, or put on hold, when I call upon Jesus.

Laurie, this was great as always. My earthly father was not absent (though he did pass away when I was only 25) but in some ways that might have made things easier on me and my whole family. My dad was a very sick and tormented man and all of his kids paid the price. It had a profound affect on the lives of me and my brothers and sisters. Before I married, one of the things I prayed sooo diligently about was that I wanted a man who would be the kind of father I had always dreamed of. I already had a 17 month old baby as a single mom and life was hard and my son desperetly needed a daddy. The first thing my husband did after we married was to formely adopt Joe as his own. I have never seen any difference in the way Joe was loved compared to my next 3 kids. He is everything I dreamed of and more when it came to being a father. All of my kids as I have told you are adults now. And to this day their reliance on and respect for their father stands firm. My oldest son has gone through many trials in his life (to include losing his first wife (only 26) to cancer) and his dependency on his dad is as strong as ever. He is 37 this month. He will call and say to his dad, "Dad, I want to run something by you." and then procede to ask his advice and opinion. He has learned over the years, (the hard way) to heed his dad's advice and he seldom now (if ever) goes the other way. And it is the same with all of them. One of the things that blesses my heart the most is watching my sons now with their own children. What great daddies they are!! How grateful over the years I have been for that answered prayer. How many times have I wished I'd had something even close to that with mine. But your right, our Heavenly Father is sooo much better. He NEVER fails me, and loves me more than any earthly father could have. That didn't use to mean a lot to me as you didn't have to love much to exceed what love I got from mine, but having seen a real father in action, now I can see. Sorry I have written one of my mini novels, but as you can see I could go on and on about the importance of the role of Father. Have a wonderful day, and thanks for sharing this. Blessings, Debbie
