THEN SINGS MY SOUL SATURDAY...a true friend to the end

There is nothing quite like the feeling of knowing that you have a close friend who will always be by your side. Someone with whom you can share the intimate details of your life and know that he or she will listen and understand. Someone whom you can depend upon to give you good advice and support you in the love and grace of God. Some whom Proverbs 18:34 says is "a friend that will stick closer than a brother."

In the Bible, David and Jonathan were two of the more unlikely individuals to share this type of friendship. David was a shepherd boy who had been anointed by God to assume the throne of Israel. Jonathan was the son of the king and in the line of succession. Yet the two put aside any feelings of jealousy between them and formed a bond that would last their entire lives.

Even when things got bad between David and King Saul, Jonathan remained David's friend. Though this friendship created tension in Jonathan's own relationship with his father, he trusted in the will of the Lord and had the courage to remain loyal. Though Jonathan knew that he and David would have to part ways, he committed to forever being David's friend.

I have two special friends that have stuck with me thru thick and thin and who have proven to be loyal and committed to me over the years.

One of these friends ... I married!

The other friend... paid a debt I could not repay!
