if the fun is in the selecting of the paints,
(Alyssa (Jordan's special girl) joined us and she proved to be VERY artsy!)
if the fun is in the creativity of painting a piece of pottery,
(Here I am trying to figure out the scheme of colors...it WAS a major ordeal!)
(David and Anna discussing the fine colors of their art piece)
Whatever the reason for the fun - it is a unique experience for my family. We are always amazed at all of the different pieces of pottery to choose from. How amazing it would be to sit at a pottery wheel and create such pieces of art out of just a clump of clay.
(Some of the finished product...bowl is painted by Clayton,
set of coasters by Laurie)
In the Bible, God describes Himself as a potter who is shaping our lives into something He can pour His own glory into. We are in the hands of God right now, being shaped and formed, just as a potter shapes a clump of clay. We all have a choice on how we will respond to Gods shaping - we can resist the shaping and molding through our rebellion or resentment, which will make us hard and unbending. Or we can be soft and moldable, being open to whatever God wants to do in and through our lives.
Have you ever considered that God is making you and shaping you for His own unique purpose?
- He is not finished with you yet!
- You are still a work in progress!
- God is refining you even today!
He is the potter.
We are the clay.
ISAIAH 45:9 "Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, 'Stop, you're doing it wrong!' Does the pot exclaim, 'How clumsy can you be?' "

Laurie, that looks like fun. We do have a place similar to this here (I think it is called "Paint Your Pot" or something like that), but I've never gone. I took pottery in college and enjoyed it a lot!
I have a question for you. What do you do with all of your beautiful creations? :o)
Thanks for sharing the pictures. They look fun!

That looks like a lot of fun! I love pottery and to paint!
"God wants to smooth out certain parts of you and grow you in ways you may think are unimaginable. He wants to redesign your inner life, reorganize your priorities, redirect the tendencies of your tongue, and rewire your thinking pattern."
Laurie, this really was speaking to me. The past 2 years have been really rough, spiritually and physically. There have been many dry spots and much anger(repented of now). I long to be where I was 3 years ago with the Lord. But also I know I can't focus on the past,I have to go forward and God will take me deeper and higher for all I've been through. I guess you can say life has just worn on me and it's been hard. Not in our marriage, just in finances and circumstances. Many times I've looked and aksed God WHY? We're too young or we're not capable. Or we're faithful to You,Lord. I've never really went through hard things I don't guess and when we got married hard things happened, but God was faithful to us. I can tesitfy to that. He was faithful and still is to us. But at times I'm still like why,Lord? Why us? Thank you for your blog. It really ministers to me. I would appreciate your prayers for myself if you don't mind.
Thank you for your reply. It really is a blessing to meet women older than me and who have been married or had children longer than I. Sometimes it's hard to talk to my Mother about somethings. I guess we all look back at certain times of our life and wish you were the same spiritually then as you are now. I know I have grown a lot in the Lord and His knowledge. I just have to remind myself that what I am doing is not little in the eyes of the Lord- staying home with Daniel. Though the world may look down on it,God doesn't. Like I said in my post the other day. Before I got married and had a baby, life was easy. I don't guess I was ever really tested and really didn't go through many trials. Now, I am and sometimes you just feel like you fail more than you succeed. I hope I'm making sense. Thank you for your encouragment.
We have a place similar to this one in Phoenix. I used to take my niece there and we loved sitting together, painting and talking. It's a great way to find time to spend with kids of all ages. And yes, it does remind me that God is the potter and I'm the clay. He's definitely still molding me and I want to cooperate.
Always love clay and the way it reminds me of the shaping of our lives. Loved the pictures.
Thank you for your recent comment on my Laced with Grace devo about worshipping God and our Isaacs.
Have a wonderful day!
