THANKFUL THURSDAY...will anyone remember my name?

It seems like people are constantly trying to make a name for themselves. It starts out at a young age, while in school, we strive to be known as something .... class clown, school jock, teachers pet and making a name for ourselves continues on all thru adulthood.

We eventually get to a point in our life that we wonder if people will even remember us when we are long gone from this earth. Will they even remember our name or what accomplishments we achieved in our life?

As I pondered this thought this week, I tried thinking back to my school days and I tried to list at least 10 people that I remembered from school. It was harder than I thought it would be. I could not even remember my teachers names, names of  people who had huge impacts on my life. I have memories of their faces and the classrooms, but their names just escape me.

Wouldn't it be awful if our own loved ones forgot our names?
My dad has been battling dementia and often times gets confused. Sometimes his speech is not what it should be and it is difficult to communicate with him. Today, his wife put the phone to his ear so I could talk to him and when I asked him if he knew who he was talking to, he said, "Laurie Ann". That tickled me to hear him say that, it has been years since anyone has called me "Laurie Ann".

Today, I was reminded that no matter what our circumstances are, we all have a Father who will never forget our name. He knows us so intimately, more intimately than anyone else, and when others forget...God will always remember who we are. For we are His chosen, His children, His beloved.

Isaiah 43:2 "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine."
This week I am so thankful that God knows my name! What are you grateful for? Please share your grateful heart with us and link up your THANKFUL THURSDAY post below!

Hi Laurie! I realized our connection today when I was linking up...I'm an Arkansas girl (now in another state) married to an AG pastor. I love linking up for Thankful Thursdays!

How wonderful that He not only remembers our name, He knew it from the foundation of the universe.

I read on Facebook of a girl who was 4 years older than me dying last week. It has been touching to read her friends and former teachers' comments about her. I never knew her but remembered her smile. So it got me thinking on that too, of what people will remember about me.

Have a great Thursday!!

I've thought about this too. Who's even going to know I existed? Wonderful post, thank you.

It's so amazing to think about the fact that the God of the universe, the Creator of heaven and earth, not only knows my name, but called it. Great post!

Beautiful post and so true! What a blessing that God knows us, loves us and that will always be so! Hugs to you dealing with your father's dementia, my mom suffers from it, too, and I do wonder if one day she won't remember me.

Laurie,
It's true that we all have a special feeling about people remembering our name. I think it has to do with God elevating His own Name. And He knows our name. Our name is written down in glory!

Though you're going through hard times now with your father, the relationship and memories you have will never be taken away--they are real. The promises we have in Christ can give us hope when the waters are rough. Thanks for sharing this personal moment with us.
Praying for you,
Wendy

What a great reminder! Sometimes it's easy to feel forgotten but our Father never forgets. We are written in the palm of His hand. I'm sorry about the challenge with your Dad. I think his spirit man remembers even when his mortal brain doesn't.

I am one of those people that have a hard time with names. I often feer to tell the person who has tracked me down in the store and told me their life history, that I don't remember what their name is. A lot of times I don't introduce my Hubby to others just because I don't remember their names. It makes me beyond happy the God remembers my name! The only other person I need to remember my name is my son. He can always call me MOM!

And he knows us all by name! Thanks for this post. Whether friends or even family forget us, God knows the very hairs of our head.

I was especially grateful for this, during the times in my life when it was quite a while between "talks" with my Lord! God is so good to us, and I feel so safe in His hands!
