Superbowl Faith

I shared the following devo today with the readers of LACED WITH GRACE. You can read other devo's from great Christian authors daily...check it out! www.lacedwithgrace.com

The BIG game is over. The victory was sweet for this Title-town home-town girl! Growing up just down the street from Lambeau field made me proud to see the championship trophy come back home last night.

I love watching the Superbowl game! Not just when “my” team is playing, but because it is the game of all games, the game of the year that in the end someone is going to be walking away with the prize…the championship ring!

I think it is funny the kind of people that watch the Superbowl games.

First you have the “INQUISITIVE” fans, these are the spectators that only watch the game to see the flashy commercials. They are not interested in the game, except for the final moment.

Then you have the “INDIFFERENT” fans. These are the fans that could really care less about the game or the commercials. They don’t really care who wins, or by how much.

Finally, you have the “INTERESTED” fans. These are the one that I relate to the most. These are the football fans that really care about the game. They have their eye on the prize…the final prize, that is..the Lambeau trophy and the Superbowl ring!

Does this also not describe the kind of faith in God that most people have?

God is building a team of great players, and training His team to go all the way to the end. To fight for the final prize, to win the trophy of all trophies. To obtain the ring of all rings … to obtain His prize that awaits us, eternal glory!

But so many of us take our eye off of the prize. We tend to have “inquisitive” faith, the kind that causes us to ask questions about God but yet never really joining His team as a believer. Then there are the ones who have “indifferent” faith, the kind of faith that really does not depend upon God at all. They go thru life thinking that they are good people, therefore they do not need to join sides.

However, the kind of faith that I pray to have is the “interested” kind of faith, this is the kind of faith that will keep you in the game, it will cause us to strive to be more like Paul instructs us…

“One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.” (Philippians 3:13-15)

God’s team has plenty of positions available, but we have to be interested, not inquisitive, not indifferent but interested. So…what kind of superbowl faith do you have?
