A PIECE OF MY HEART... a mother's laughter

I just love spending time with my 13 year old daughter, Anna. There are times where she just cracks me up with the things that she says and does. It doesn't take long before anyone can see what a funny side she has to her personality. For a mom, there is nothing more that I enjoy than to tilt my head back and laugh with my kids.

I think that laughter was pretty important to God or He would not have spent so much time talking about it. The word "laughter" appears about 40 times in the Bible. When I think about laughter in the Bible, I immediately think about the story of Abraham and Sarah. Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was way past child-bearing age when the miracle birth of their son Isaac happened.

GENESIS 21:6 "God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me."

Can you imagine the laughter that this momma (Sarah) had?

I have read commentaries that said that Sarah laughed at the situation and everyone who heard about it also laughed. Still today, we laugh when we read this account.

But the laughter that I believe Sarah had, is much like the laughter I had earlier this evening with my daughter Anna ... a laughter of delight!

A joy-filled attitude can work like a daily dose of vitamins. Sarah knew what it was like to have the wisdom of a merry heart.

WHAT HAVE YOU LAUGHED AT TODAY?

and that is a piece of my heart today;

thanks for this post..what a reminder... with little toddlers, its so easy to be ordering them around and get tired picking up after then..

i am humbled and reminded that motherhood is something more than just cleaning them and preparing for them...

Humor thoughtfully generated and graciously received provides a quick leap into emotional openness with physical closeness- the heart of intimacy. I just wrote a book about how to do this.
Enjoy!

The bottom line is that long-term intimacy is contingent on two people being able to be emotionally open and physically close at the same time.

This is not rocket science, but so many of us fear bonding because we are wounded. We tried to bond once or twice but it did not work out well, so we fear what we crave. A quick leap over the thresholds that impede the deepening of our attachment is sharing laughter that is thoughtfully generated and graciously received. Please check out my quick read book on this subject.
