THANKFUL THURSDAY...healthy food

Thank you IRIS for hosting Thankful Thursday. Each week, I try to recall something God has placed in my life to be grateful for. It is amazing how my list never runs out.

HEALTHY FOOD...
are you thankful for it?
With the holidays fast approaching, I was thinking about how I really need to go on a diet but I have convinced myself that "this" is not a good time of the year to do that. With turkey, mashed potatoes, corn bread dressing and pumpkin pie only two weeks away - dieting would be a total bust!

Usually around the holidays, families get together around a table of a feast. Usually, you will find one or two things that are good for us to eat, but most of the time you will find other less nutritious foods at the table that are far more fun to eat. For instance, how much more fun is it to eat the fruit salad with loads of whip cream than the spinach salad?

I don't know why junk food tastes better than healthy food.

Did you know that God has provided us food that will nourish our spirit? His food contains sustenance for every area of life, and His invitation is for us to treat ourselves generously to the best spiritual food around - the Word of God!

From the start to the finish, everything in the Bible is good for you! Life dishes out interesting delicacies that often tempt us. Such as movies, DVD's, the internet, and cable television. We would all admit that God's Word is much more nutritious than these things, but often times we regard it as not always the best-tasting dish on the table.

Clearly, we cannot live off of the rich, creamy fruit salad. If we did, we would eventually find ourselves malnourished. In the same way, we cannot expect to survive spiritually if we fill ourselves with spiritual junk food.

Today, you can start your diet.
~ A nutritious diet ~

READ YOUR BIBLE
it has the nutrients and strength you need to grow stronger!
LUKE 4:4 " Jesus answered him, saying, 'It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Are you thankful for the healthy food of God's Word?

Good stuff, Laurie. Your writings always amaze me...how you can take one topic and turn it into something spiritual in such a way that it is simple but full of inspiration.

I am thankful for God's spiritual "healthy" food and for our healthy physical food.

Be blessed...love you!
Jenn

I read about a woman who had gone on what she called the Biblical diet because she was dying. She ate only foods from the Bible and within a month she had began to recover. That was over 10 years ago and now she has her health back. Yes, the Bible directs us if we only listen. Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Mary

Excellent Thankful Thursday post. I see you like cornbread dressing too. We always have that. Boy it is so true, the best tasting stuff isn't the best for you. I can hardly wait to eat that pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Pumpkin is a vegetable isn't it?
Hugs,
Charlotte

Blessings Laurie...OUCH!!! You certainly know how to make a good point! What a craving I have for a real turkey dinner but I know I will fill up on God's Word! I love cranberry sauce & all the trimmings

Yet your insightful comparison of a healthy diet & feeding from my Daily Manna...tells me I need a better balance. That's my life in a nutshell! Always filling on on "junk" food and not nutritious and now you have convicted me once more on "blogging"/internet...I don't have the other conveniences but
I do think I spend much time in His Word even with blog visits & such!
I start my day out right with Daily Manna but there are times, I must confess that I hurry off to friends or blogs...when HE IS MY BEST FRIEND and I should want more time with Him and Him first & most! It's like that one video I've seen on this guy meeting with Jesus at a cafe...have you seen it? He rushes through & jabbers on not giving Jesus a chance to comment. Thanks Laurie...my eyes & heart can see more clearly on improving my daily nutrition! I'm so thankful for Him but it seems I'm lacking in showing it each day! I'm going on a THANKFUL DIET of Praise, Worship &
Listening to Him much more! He deserves so much thanks & all of me

Thanks for making me accountable to my Master & first LOVE of my life who should have 1st place daily!

There is no better food than the word of God. AMEN!

I'm loving the feast before me and so grateful we have the whole book to read in peace and not fearing for our lives! Thankful for where we live!

You have a gift of writing of somethings so simple yet meaningful.

...I may be the only woman on earth who prefers the spinach salad.

Your correlation of junk food/healthy food and God's Word reminds me of something my husband likes to remind our congretation:

"How is it that we can sit in a movie theater for up to two hours soaking in hollywood filth, but we get all agitated and irked if the pastor preaches three seconds past his 20 MINUTE ALLOTTED TIME??!!

God's Word is all good all the time! A steady diet of it will do NO HARM! Pleast tell my why even Christains don't "get" this.

AMEN to this post!
Kindest Thoughts,
~esthermay
