Yesterday, I joined my husband for lunch with an older gentleman that my husband has been reaching out to. Joe is 90 years old. He enjoys our company because he is lonely and has nobody else. Joe lost his bride of over 35 years a few years ago, and he is simply lonely.
After lunch, Joe gave me the tour of his home. The thing that struck me is that everything that his wife had decorated their home with was still intact. As he showed me around, he pointed out all of the things that his precious wife had bought. Afterwards, the 3 of us sat in his living room and talked. We listened and Joe talked, mostly about his precious wife, whom he missed so much.
When life is hectic and we wonder what it would be like on the other side, may we never forget how good we have it. When I pull up to a stoplight in my run down, unwashed, litter filled vehicle, it is easy to glance over and be envious of the tan faced, blonde haired, single woman sitting in her shiny, bright red convertible with the top down. It may look like others have a better life than you, but the truth is many people are lonely and live a fast-paced life because they are looking for something. Fast cars, money and fame is just a way to fill a void they feel in their life.
I am so lucky to be married and to be loved and cherished! We (my husband and I) may not have much, but what we have is simply priceless. No money or fame can replace what we have. Someday, when I am 90 years old and someone sits in my living room, I will be able to sayto them, "I am so lucky to have had the journey with the man of my dreams!"
PROVERBS 5:18, 19 "Rejoice in the wife of your youth...May you always be captivated by her love."
I am thankful for the memories and the love. Marriage is not being confined to the corral; it is being saddled up for one of life's greatest rides!
Today, I am linking up over at THANKFUL THURSDAY, where grateful hearts are joined together each Thursday. IRIS is our host this week! Come join us!

Amen to that Laurie. Although marriage is hard work (some days), it is well worth it. Sure others might have fancier things than we do, but I don't care about fancy things.
Thank you for sharing your grateful heart with us.
Love & peace,

I LOVE older married couples. My Mother in law is now alone and in her 90's. I can't imagine being alone after so many wonderful years together. My hubby is the best earthly gift I have EVER received.
Such a precious post sis, bless you.
Laurie - this is such a heartwarming story. I love what you said about you and your husband, "We may not have much, but what we have is simply priceless." I can say the same thing about my husband and I.
I needed to read this post today. Too often, I get caught up in focusing upon life's problems instead of being thankful for what we have.
Blessings,
Joan
Life is very precious indeed!
It is good to be thankful for what graces it...
Bless you for spending time with Joe. Just being present and listening must have meant so much to him.
I love this post! I pray to say the same thing! I was thinking about this the other day. We all long sometimes for someone else's life and they long for ours. Strange huh?
what you said is so true... what you are ecstatic about is the very thing i'm lifting up to the Lord. you are truly blessed.
Laurie, I trully believe this is one of your best posts yet! I loved it. It really hit home with me. My car is much like your's only dented. It wasn't until I saw it reflected in a window that made me realize it didn't look as bad as it did in my mind. I'd love to be that girl with the highlights but mine is now highlighted naturally and best of all mine is free! LOL I don't have to spend a fortune on it anymore. The grass isn't always greener. I would love to have a better car, but I wouldn't want a fancy sports car. I may not have a tan but I can use a self tanner and not get skin cancer! Joe's story was touching and put things in perspective. Thanks for writing this post which echoed my feelings as of late.
I am also touched by your post and this phrase (in particular) "We may not have much, but what we have is simply priceless."
I may have to do something very special with that phrase - starting with my Facebook status.
Others would call our situation dire - no car, one week away from homelessness, I'm unemployed and he's disabled - but - BUT! What we have is simply priceless.
Thanks for the nudge :-)
Thank you for this beautiful reminder my sister.
I am so thankful for my husband too!
Bless you!
Beth
it's great to be able to enjoy and be thankful for who God has joined together. All glory to God!
I also am blessed to have the husband I have. I do believe God picked him for me, as a precious gift, and not myself.
That's right! Money, fancy cars, and fame doesn't make you rich ~ You are truly rich if you have someone that loves and cherishes you even after you are gone.
Love Ya!
Krista
Hi Laurie,
This was such a good post. There are not a lot of better things here in this earthly life than having that mate to share your life with. One of God's best blessings for sure. How grateful I am for the 35 years with mine.
Hugs, Debbie
Wonderful post, to which I will add a great big Amen!!!
