DAILY DEVO...apple picking

TODAY'S DAILY...

One of my favorite memories of my boys when they were young would be the trips to the apple orchard. I can still see them reaching as far as they could to grab the perfect apple.

Our youngest son was just a toddler and couldn't really reach the tree without help, so he would try to pick up fallen apples on the ground. We would have to inspect the apples fallen before he would pu...t them in the basket, to keep the bad apples out of the bunch.

We often have some "bad apples" that come across our path that come disguised as the good fruit. They look good. They sound good. But like the fallen apples, upon closer inspection you see that what is on the inside does not reveal much fruit.

If a fruit tree is not growing fruit, there's not much use for it. In fact, if it's dead, you may need to cut it down. A fruitless Christian has about the same use...

"A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vine dresser, 'look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?' And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.' " -Luke 13:6-9

If you were an apple (spiritually speaking), and you were to look inside, what kind of fruit would you be...tasteful and ripe with purpose or a fallen, bruised apple with no purpose?

God made us to be people of growth and action. Don't be a dead fruit!
