"I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory." -PSALM 73:23,24
It starts with a tiny fist wrapped around a new mother's finger. It continues with a young hand held gently in a Grandfather's much larger grasp. It endures puppy love, adolescent crushes and courtship. If we are wise, it even extends into marriage, middle age, beyond the golden years and to the very end of our time.
Holding hands...It is the most intimate expression of love between two human beings.
I have been married for 28 years and I still enjoy holding the hand of my husband. This beautiful act of affection should never be taken for granted. Be careful that it does not slip away from you.
Holding the hand of someone that you love is such a beautiful and deep connection. It requires no words but yet relays such a profound and meaningful message.
One of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed is a man holding the hand of the woman he had been married to for over 50 years. He had done it so many other times but this time it was different ... she laid in the hospital bed, he was at her side, just holding her hand. No words were spoken, but a tear rolled down his cheek as he held her hand in his and caressed the top of her hand with his other hand.
This would be his last time to hold her hand. But there was nothing to worry about because as she faded away and her hand slipped from his...another strong hand grasped onto hers and held it tight. It was the hand of God and He was leading her just like He had promised.
Today, I am thankful for the love and affection that rests simply in holding hands ... God is simply waiting to say to each of us ... "come, take My hand".

This really touched my heart, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you..and it's maybe odd but my husband and I often sleep with hands holding each other :)
ReplyDeleteOh Laurie, this is beautiful. Tears! Playing along.
ReplyDeleteI love it when my husband holds my hand after 25 years of marriage. It happens more frequently lately for which I am very thankful. I am so glad though that I am upheld with the Lord's righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

I just couldn't agree more with you. There is just really nothing like it. When my daughter was little we did the 3 little squeezes thing which meant I love you... how many times was that message silently said to her over the years as she grew and matured etc. The day she married before I left to go and be seated in the church I took both of her hands and prayed with her and we ended that prayer with 3 little squeezes. I never think of holding hands without thinking...I love you. Thanks for sharing this. Blessings to you, Debbie
