There are a few things that totally delight me. Eating ice cream is one. Going to the beach is another. But the one thing that totally delights me is spending time with my family. I love going on walks with them, listening to their day activities, sitting around the table playing a board game or just simply sitting around a crackling fire and not saying one word, just being together.
As much as my heart delights in these cherished moments, what good is the time we spend with each other if it is done with no emotion or no love.
We learn to love God by obeying Him and serving Him, but like spending time with our loved ones ... is that enough? What about the emotional aspect of loving God?
PSALM 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart."
When it comes to delighting in the Lord, it is my prayer that it will come from the depth of my heart and that I am not just going thru the motions. He is longing for us to be near Him, I am so thankful that He delights in communing with me.
What are you thankful for today on this THANKFUL THURSDAY? Please join your grateful hearts with ours and link up below with Mr. Linky. HAPPY TT!

ReplyDeleteHi Laurie,
ReplyDeleteI love ice-cream and going to the beach too :) And I love to spend time with our dear Lord too. It is truly amazing that He loves us so much that He loves to commune with us. Thanks for this precious reminder.
Thank God for blessing you with lovely times with your family. May God bless you and family always. Take care and Happy Thankful Thursday!
Warm regards,
Nancie
Oh Laurie,
ReplyDeleteThis scripture verse is one of my favorites and the key is to delight in the Lord... Oh how I delight in living for Him.
Also, delighting in the gift of my marriage this week. Thank you for hosting and praising our King. BIG hugs. Lynn
Sometimes I need the reminder of not just going through the motions and to really put my all in my prayer and study time.
ReplyDeleteTime with my family is one of my favorite times too!
Have a blessed week sister!
Love this post! And beach, ice cream, time with my family = right up there with my favorite earthly moments, too!
ReplyDeleteWhen we delight ourselves in the Lord, we obey His very Words. We seek to know Him more. In the long run, His heartbeat becomes our heartbeat and His desires becomes our desires too. No more struggle, just obedience with gladness.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that Laurie. I too don't want to just go through the motions, but that my heart is where my head is:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your grateful heart with us and hosting TT this month.
Love & peace,
Iris

Laurie,
ReplyDeleteI too love ice cream but my family is my blessing from God. I love that you put it in simple and clear words. I printed the verse and will post on desk.
Thank you and God Bless You!

The song by Matthew West is one of my favorites. Loved your post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this Laurie, and thank you for hosting another Thankful Thursday. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI share that prayer with you..."When it comes to delighting in the Lord, it is my prayer that it will come from the depth of my heart and that I am not just going thru the motions"...beautiful post....
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteIt is good to be among you faithful ones on Thankful Thursday...I am truly thankful for this group. More than just bloggers BUT with a purpose! To help othersand glorify God!
Thank you for a thoughtful post. Jesus wants us to love Him with our WHOLE heart and I believe that means our emotions too.
ReplyDeleteHe cares where our affections lie. I have seen both myself and others get more excited at times about chocolate and certain movies or books! My prayer during those times is that He would free me from inordinate affections so that my greatest desire and source of joy would be Christ alone!
The very best blessings in life come when we delight in the Lord! I am joining you with thankfulness to Him for loving us and desiring us to have a closeness with Him. There is no better place to be!
ReplyDeleteGod has been showing me that verse frequently.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day.
