RESPECT ... Aretha Franklin sang about it: R.E.S.P.E.C.T. (just a little bit). More and more I see that Aretha was going down the right path suggesting that what we are missing in this world is plain and simple respect!
You have experienced it too. At the grocery store. Driving on the freeway. At the dry cleaners. Waiting in line at the Post Office. People are impatient and disrespectful. Having a lack of respect isn't just an issue with our children and teens, I see many adults that have a serious issue with showing respect not only for themselves but for others.
My kids make fun of me everytime we go thru a drive thru window, because of the way I talk to the little loudspeaker. I say "please" and "thank you" and "yes maam". Even when the voice on the other end of that little box is short, rude and confusing. I can't explain it...maybe it was the way I was raised or possibly it is one way that I can brighten someone's day, it might amaze you to see the impact that alittle bit of respect (and kindness) can go.
1 PETER 2:17 "Show proper respect to everyone." (NIV)
Showing respect should not be based upon whether or not a person deserves it...but because God has asked us to show proper respect to everyone. The best way to have a little bit of respect in your world is letting it begin with you!
and that is a piece of my heart today;
Beautifully said sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. When I can (sometimes I will admit I am pushed too far and don't do well with this) I TRY and respond kindly whenever someone speaks to me rudely or with disrespect and it is AMAZING how quickly their attitudes turn around....(sometimes anyway, haha) I had a woman once in a doc's office (of all places) who was rude, short and beyond irritable with me and I responded to each of her unkind short remarks with patience and respect. After the third time she ended up getting all teary eyed and said, "I'm sorry, you soo don't deserve this, but I have had SUCH a bad day and just got some bad news as well." I ended up praying with her...bottom line we have no idea where people are coming from sometimes. I could tell you many more stories where I blew it and said things I wished I hadn't...my point being IF we let Him sometimes these situations can be used for good. Thanks for praying yesterday Laurie, have a good day. Blessings, Debbie
