Lynn of Spiritually Unequal Marriage is hosting THANKFUL THURSDAY this week. Lynn has challenged all of us to consider obedience and hearing the voice of God. To be able to hear the voice of God, we must first know the voice of God. It is when we are able to recognize the voice of God that we can be obedient.
"God will help us become the people we are meant to be, if only we will ask Him." - HANNAH WHITALL SMITH
Wow. What a great quote. Think about the latter part of that quote ..."if ONLY we will ask Him." Most of the time we have not because we ask not.
JAMES 4:2 "You do not have, because you do not ask God."
It is easy for us to pray for the little things in our life and be obedient...
"Lord, help me today to be on time for work."
and we leave the house 10 minutes early and arrive on time!
"Lord, give me a hunger for your Word today."
and during lunch your co-worker asks you to help her with a Bible Study lesson.
It is so easy to be obedient when it comes easy. But what about the big things in life? How easy is it to be obedient? and the big question ... how easy is it to believe God for the big things?
When we pray fervently and earnestly - great things usually happen. Unfortunately, often times we are too doubtful or too timid to even ask God to do big things. But God can and will answer your call for even the big things in your life. But it may take some obedience on your part. The type of obedience that may not be easy or comfortable.
"Dear Lord, I will do anything if you would bless us with a new car."
and God does bless you with a new car and then He asks you to give it away to someone less fortunate than you.
Obedience.
"Dear Lord, its been hard times financially...please provide us with a good raise this year."
and God answers your prayer and then asks you to give your entire raise for the year in the offering for the missionary.Obedience.
Obedience and hearing God's voice. We honor God by asking big requests, but we can't expect God to do all of the work. When we do our part (obey) ~ He will do His part. And when this happens - expect a miracle ... a BIG miracle to happen!
I am thankful for the miracles that await me. Dear Lord, help me to be obedient and patiently listen for Your voice!
What are you thankful for this Thursday? Come visit all of the grateful hearts over HERE!

ReplyDeletePraise the Lord and God bless you.
Laurie, thanks for a great TT post. You're so right. The Bible says we are to ask and then obey. I desire His will and so that's often how I pray. I want a certain outcome but I trust that He knows the best outcome for my situation. So, I need to listen and ...obey.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice thankful post sweetie.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie, I enjoyed your post today and you are right on. Thanks for sharing today about the importance of obedience and reminding me to ask too.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow... you certainly "hit the nail on the head" with this post, Laurie! Every word is so true!
ReplyDeleteHow very true, how difficult it can be to trust God with the big things. We always want to jump in and do it ourselves... Thank you for your post! It has truly blessed me today.
ReplyDeleteAmen, loved this post.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! It is easy to be obedient in the little things. The big things require alot more effort. Asking is a huge part of it, too. I asked God to give me a hunger for His Word and then I had to be obedient to read it, all of it, not just my favorite passages, when He did. It was hard work. I've found that the more we practice obedience, the more it stretches those muscles to where it makes it easier.
ReplyDeleteListening for God...sometimes we expect an audible voice and don't realize how much He has shown up for us and spoken to us in so many ways...
How true...though sometimes I think I do a better job obeying in the big things than in the little things (like my tone of voice).
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post great guidance to obeying most especially in the big things- where most of us stumble- Blessings
ReplyDeleteOh you will be the host next week! I would be looking forward to that! In the meantime, please do visit my blog for my post this week.

It's a great post Laurie. Thank for hosting again. It's a powerful word... I used to sing it when I was still studying in a Bible School.
